Inspired

Recently, while running errands, I walked into our local Natural Grocers market and was stopped in my tracks by the newly restocked produce department. The abundance of textures and colors were stunning.

I was reminded of a story my A Course In Miracles teacher would share about walking into an American market for the first time and being overwhelmed by the abundance of fresh produce. Having been separated from family, as a child, in Europe during WWII; surviving three years as a prisoner of war in multiple concentration camps; and now a teenage war-bride to an American officer, she was newly arrived in the United States starting a new life in a new country. It had been years since she had seen fresh produce, let alone having access as much as she desired.

My teacher’s story touched me deeply, and I have always remembered to take a moment to appreciate beautiful produce whenever I walk into a grocery store or farmers market.

On this particular day, standing in the Natural Grocers, I was so inspired I had to tell someone. I tracked down the assistant manager and shared my appreciation. You would have thought I had given her the winning Lotto numbers.

I could feel my teacher’s spirit smiling, “Well done.”
